Villars, Vaud




This week we've gone to ski. Some friends, sun & snow. Amazing day. We chose Villars because is the closest ski station to Lausanne. We went by train with the snow'n rail pass (forfait+train) 20% discount in the train ticket. To get to the pists we took a zip train with our forfait. Up there we enjoyed the amazing views of the mountains, with the foggy under us.

 

Esta semana hemos ido a esquiar. La primera vez esta temporada. Fue un día genial! Amigos, sol y nieve. Elegimos la estación de Villars por estar cerca de Lausanne. Fuimos en tren hasta allí, comprando el snow'n rail, un ticket de forfait+ tren de ida y vuelta, con el que te hacen un 20% de decuento en el tren. Una vez arriba disfrutamos de las increibles vistas de las montañas, con la niebla bajo nosotros.

Villars is one of the best ski's stations close to Léman lake. Very nice for beginners (blue pists easily reached) and also for an advanced level. You can eat in the pists some pasta or sandwiches, not expensive, at Cookie Café. When you're going to finish your skiing day you can go down to the town by train or skiing blue pists.

Villars es una de las mejores pistas de ski cerca del lago Léman. Es muy agradable para principiantes (tiene pistas azules a las que se accede facilmente) y también está bien para niveles más avanzados. Cuando vas a finalizar tu día de ski, puedes bajar hata el pueblo en tren o simplemente esquiando por pistas azules.

The skiing area of Villars includes the two smaller areas of Villars/Bretaye and Gryon and is also linked via the route over Le Meilleret with the Les Diablerets skiing area, there's a glacier skiing area at 3000 m.  44 lifts and 125 km of ski slopes. There are also snowparks, 44 km of cross-country skiing trails, and to relax you can visit the thermal baths in Lavey.

El área de ski de Villars incluye  Villars/Bretaye y Gryon, y está también unida a través de Le Meilleret con la estación de Les Diablerets, donde hay una zona de pistas sobre glaciar a 3000 m. En total hay 44 remontes y 125 km de pistas. También hay snowparks y 44 km de pistas de esquí de fondo; y para relajarte puedes ir a las termas de Lavey.

Siedlung Halen, Atelier 5

This amazing and complex example of high density building was designed by 5 young architects between 1953 and 1955. Edwin Fritz, Rolf Hesterberg, Samuel Gerber, Hans Hostettler, and Alfredo Pini. In 1954, the group approached the owner of a large open field on a hillside 3 kilometers from the center of Bern with a proposal to build a large residential community on a site overlooking the Aare River and a rolling wooded landscape on the outskirts of Bern . Under an unusual arrangement with the developer, the architects were responsible for the sale of the houses.

Este increíble y complejo ejemplo de edificación residencial de alta densidad fue diseñado por cinco jóvenes arquitectos entre 1953 y 1955. Edwin Fritz, Rolf Hesterberg, Samuel Gerber, Hans Hostettler y Alfredo Pini. En 1954, el grupo se dirigió al propietario de una gran superficie de terreno en una colina a 3 kilómetros del centro de Berna con su proposición de proyecto. Esa zona permitía vistas al río Aare así como un entorno natural idóneo en las afueras de Berna. Un inusual acuerdo llevó a los arquitectos a ser los responsables de la venta de las casas.

The development includes 33 larger dwellings (type 12 houses), 41 smaller dwellings (type 380 houses) and five studios for a total of 79 units. The dwellings have between four and six room and are either four or five meters wide. There is a cafe and a small shop, swimming pool and underground parking. The development is surrounded by protected woodland, to be shared by all of the occupants.

El proyecto incluye 79 unidades, de las cuales 22 son grandes, 41 pequeñas y 5 estudios. Cada unidad tiene entre 4 y 6 habitaciones, y entre 4 o 5 metros de ancho. En el conjunto existen también una cafetería y una pequeña tienda, así como piscina y parking subterráneo. Todo estàa rodeado por un bosque de uso compartido entre todos los ocupantes.

We could distinguish between all the type of houses in two groups: the ones with the staircase perpendicular to the long axis of the houses an the othes with the staircase parallel to the long axis.

Entre todos los tipos de casas podemos diferenciar dos grupos básicamente: los que tienen la escalera perpendicular al eje longitudinal de la vivienda y los que tienen la escalera paralela a este eje.

The South façade is the most opened to the outside, with big windows that brings you to the terrace or diresctly to the garden. This garden is the transition between the house and the public natural space, the conexion.

La fachada sur de las viviendas es la más abierta al exterior, con grandes vidrieras, dando a terrazas al aire libre,  que a su vez se comunican con el jardín. Este jardín es la transición entre la vivienda y el espacio natural público, la conexión entre ambos espacios.

Ouchy, Lausanne

The southest part of Lausanne, the port of Ouchy. Winter sunsets in a sunny day makes this area really special, full of activities and shops, there is sometimes overcrowded, but you can enjoy the amazing view of the sun hidding in the Alps.

La parte sur de Lausana, el puerto de Ouchy. Los atardeceres en días soleados de invierno hacen de esta parte de la ciudad un lugar especial, lleno de actividades al aire libre y cafeterías, algunas veces se llena de gente, pero disfrutar del sol poniéndose tras los Alpes desde la otra orilla del lago lo compensa.

From Ouchy you can take a boat to cross to France or to go to another villages in Switzerland. Some of the trips offered are Lausanne - Evian; Lausanne -Thonon; Lausanne - Nyon - Yvoire (medieval town) The boat tickets are sold in the port and in the boats. In summer the schedule is bigger than in winter.
 

Desde Ouchy hay barcos a Francia y a otros pueblos de los alrededores. Algunos de los posibles viajes son Lausana - Evian; Lausana -Thonon; Lausana - Nyon - Yvoire (pueblo medieval). Los tickets se venden en el puerto y en los barcos. En verano el horario de barcos es más amplio que en invierno.
 
Walking by the lake side we arrive to the Olympic Museum. This avenue is full of flowers with a nice view of the Alps in clear days. The Castle of Ouchy is an old medieval castle converted into hotel. There are many hotels and restaurants in Ouchy, including the remarkable Chateau d'Ouchy, and also some museums, Olympic Museum and Musee de l'Elysee, photography museum.

Andando junto al lago llegamos al Museo Olímpico. Esta avenida, llena de parterres de flores, tiene una vista de los Alpes preciosa, sobre todo en días despejados. El castillo de Ouchy es una antigua fortaleza medieval reconstruida y convertida en hotel. Hay muchos hoteles y restaurantes en Ouchy, incluyendo el reconstruido Château d' Ouchy; además de museos como el Olímpico y el del Elysée de fotografía.

Ovronnaz, Valais

Walking in autumn through the valleys and mountains of Ovronnaz is one of the most sensorial experiences that we can find in Switzerland in this season. The trees of an intense yellow create an amazing atmosphere.

Caminar durante el Otoño por los valles y montañas de Ovronnaz es una de las mejores experiencias que podemos encontrar en Suiza durante esta estación. Los árboles se tornan de un amarillo intenso, creando una increíble atmósfera.

You can arrive to Ovronnaz by car, 1h 15min from Lausanne (92 km), or by train and bus (bus from Martigny. Once there it's better to go to the information point to take a map of the area. One option there is taking the chairlift to Jorasse and to continue by walking for 3 hours until Grand-Garde (2145m), where you can enjoy the amazing view of the valley and the Alps.

Se puede llegar a Ovronnaz con coche, 1h 15 min desde Lausanne (92 km.) o mediante tren y autobús (desde la cercana Martigny) Una vez allí, nos podemos dirigir al punto de información para hacernos con un mapa de la zona. Una de las mejores opciones es coger el telesilla hasta Jorasse y continuar caminando desde allí durante 3 horas hasta Grand-Garde dónde podremos disfrutar de unas increíbles vistas de los Alpes.
