Le Grammont (2171 m.) Valais

subir al grammont suiza

Le Grammont, Valais. This mountain, about 2171 above sea level, stands in the South part of Lake Geneva. And there are several hiking paths which offer magnificent views of all the Leman's valley (in a sunny day). The walk starts in a small village, the Flon, at 1050m. and from there to the beautiful Lake Taney there is a altitude difference of almost 500m, in 2 km. It was quite hard for us. After taking a break, we walked up for two hours until we reached the jumelles, and the snow.

This second part of the hike, from the Lake Taney to the summit of Grammont is one of our best experiences in Switzerland, walking on snow in summer surrounded by huge montains. This part of the path is almost 4.2 km long with an altitude difference of 672 m. At the end, the incredible view of Lake Geneva from the summit of Grammont.

From up there we enjoyed a few minutes the 360º view before starting the walk down (about two hours until le Flon), the cities of Lausanne, Vevey, Montreux and the castle of Chillon. And in the "Alps" side, most of the Swiss peaks of the Canton of Valais, Fribourg etc, like the Rochers de Naye, the Dent of Jaman, the Tour d'Ai of Leysin, the Diablerets, the Moléson, etc. further away stand the Eiger and Jungfrau.

Everytime someone comes to visit us in Switzerland, we go to the castle of Chillon in Montreaux. 15 minutes from Lausanne by car and we arrive to one of the most famous and amazing castles in Switzerland. Chillon is listed as "Switzerland's most visited historic monuments". This medieval fortress on the shores of Geneva's lake creates a magic image due to its conservation and mainly because of the view of the Alps and the lake from its courts and windows.

visit castle chillon switzerland

horaire chateau chillon lac leman The castle was built over a rocky island, throughout the tour you can see interesting models of it, and you'll appreciate the special place where it was located. There are a lot of rooms, all of them with their original paintings or part of them. For us, the best time to go is December, beacuse all the weekends of that month, they reproduce the life in the Middle ages in the castle, cooking, doing armors... and you can try original recipies of that period.

There's no cafeteria inside, but now it's planned to build one close to the entrance, there's a project to remodel all the access area to the castle. The price of the visit is 12.- for adults, 6.- for children and 10.- for students, to see the schedules there's more info in the official site page http://www.chillon.ch/en/index.cfm

Ouchy, Lausanne

The southest part of Lausanne, the port of Ouchy. Winter sunsets in a sunny day makes this area really special, full of activities and shops, there is sometimes overcrowded, but you can enjoy the amazing view of the sun hidding in the Alps.

From Ouchy you can take a boat to cross to France or to go to another villages in Switzerland. Some of the trips offered are Lausanne - Evian; Lausanne -Thonon; Lausanne - Nyon - Yvoire (medieval town) The boat tickets are sold in the port and in the boats. In summer the schedule is bigger than in winter.

Walking by the lake side we arrive to the Olympic Museum. This avenue is full of flowers with a nice view of the Alps in clear days. The Castle of Ouchy is an old medieval castle converted into hotel. There are many hotels and restaurants in Ouchy, including the remarkable Chateau d'Ouchy, and also some museums, Olympic Museum and Musee de l'Elysee, photography museum.
