Vallée et Lac de Joux

Fall at the Lac de Joux, Vaud. The Lac de Joux is located close to the French border; it is the largest expanse of water in the Jura region. This lake is famous because in winter it freezes and becomes an ice rink, can you imagine skating there?! Before our arrived from Lausanne, we did some stops to enjoy this year's  autumn colors.

Otoño en el Lac de Joux, Vaud. El Lago de Joux se está situado cerca de la frontera francesa; es la extensión de agua más grande de la región del Jura. Este lago es famoso por congelarse en invierno y poder patinar sobre él. Antes de llegar, en nuestro camino desde Lausanne, hicimos un par de paradas para disfrutar de los colores del otoño.

There's a nearly adjacent lake but much smaller, the Lac Brenet, both of them don't have a surface drainage; the water trickles away underground and only comes to the surface again a few kilometres away near Vallorbe.

Hay otro lago al lado de éste, el Lac Brenet, mucho más pequeño, pero igual de bonito. Ninguno de ellos tiene  un riachuelo o salida de agua en superficie, ésta se filtra en el terreno y reaparece a unos kilómetros, cerca de Vallorbe.

The village between both lakes it's called Le Pont, it looks like a Nordic construction  placed in the South face. There're lots of hiking paths that start from here: the tour of the lake, the ascent to the Dent de Vaulion and many others.

El pueblo entre ambos lagos se llama Le Pont, recuerda a las construcciones nórdicas,  está situado en la cara sur del lago. Desde aquí salen muchas rutas de senderismo: la vuelta al lago es una posibilidad, o la subida al Dent de Vaulion y muchas otras.

Fall hiking: Lac des Vaux, Verbier

Fall hiking: Lac des Vaux, Verbier. The same day we went to the top of Verbier, Montfort http://www.lovingswitzerland.com/2014/09/glacier-de-tortin-montfort.html, we made the most of our time to do also a 3 hours hike, to see the Lac des Vaux. From Fontanet, head towards Les Attelas before going down to Lac des Vaux where you can enjoy the lake and have a little restles, we ate there. From here we followed the signs for Col de Mines, before ending at Les Ruinettes.

Excursión de otoño: Lac des Vaux, Verbier. El mismo día que subimos al punto más alto de Verbier, Montfort http://www.lovingswitzerland.com/2014/09/glacier-de-tortin-montfort.html, aprovechamos  para hacer una caminata de 3 horas para ver el Lac des Vaux. Salimos de Fontanet y nos dirigimos a Les Attelas, antes de bajar al Lac des Vaux, donde hicimos un pequeño pic-nic. Desde aquí seguimos los carteles a Col de Mines, para acabar finalmente en Les Ruinettes.




From the lake we could already see Verbier village; this almost circular walk is easily accesible to all levels of walker, even for our small friend Fito. In winter there are a blue and a red runs for skiers coming by.

Desde lo alto, antes de llegar al lago ya se ve Verbier, rodeado de montañas. Este recorrido casi circular es accesible para todos los niveles, incluso para nuestro pequeño amigo Fito. En invierno hay dos pistas de esquí, una roja y otra azul,  que pasan muy cerca del lago.

- Finish point: Les Ruinettes (you could continue to Fontanet to do a round trip), passing by Lac des Vaux (a nice place to take a break).

Lac de Salanfe, Valais

Hiking to Salanfe lake. Last weekend we went on a beautiful hike up to "Le Luisin" (2786 m.) passing by Salanfe lake. This lake is located at an elevation of 1925 meters and it could be easily reached by walk from Van d'en Haut in 1 hour and a half. It´s an idyllic spot and well worth the walk up, especially in fall, alight with the vibrant red, oranges and yellows.

Excursión al lago de Salanfe. El pasado fin de semana hicimos una bonita excursión al pico "Le Luisin" de 2786 m. de altitud, pasado por el lago de Salanfe. Esta lago está situado a 1925 m. y se puede llegar fácilmente andando desde Van d'en Haut en una hora y media. Es un lago idílico y merece mucho la pena la subida, especialmente en Otoño, con los vibrantes colores rojos y amarillos de los árboles.

- Finish point: Van d'en Haut (round trip), passing by Salanfe dam and lake (offering exceptional views of Salanfe, the surrounding peaks and the dam).

Hiking to La Pointe de Bellevue, Valais

Hiking to La Pointe de Bellevue (2.041 m.) Two weeks ago we went on a hike to La Pointe de Bellevue from the beautiful village of Morgins. The hike takes you up through an amazing countryside, crossing ski slopes and with fabulous views, specially the outstanding view of the chain Les Dents du midi. It takes about 3 hours to go to the view point of La Pointe and snow raquets in winter are really recommended. This first hike of the year has left a superb memory on us =)

Excursion a la Pointe de Bellevue (2.041 m.) Hace dos semanas hicimos una excursión a La Pointe de Bellevue desde el bonito pueblo de Morgins. La subida te lleva a través de un entorno precioso, cruzando algunas pistas de esquí con unas fabulosas vistas, especialmente la impresionante cordillera Les Dents du Midi. Lleva como 3 horas completar la subida y las raquetas de nieve en invierno son imprescindibles. Esta primera ruta del año nos ha dejado un excelente recuerdo =)

We didn't think there was so much snow, but it was easy to walk over it, the only slippery part was when we had to go through some ski slopes. Once we had overtaken this first part, we took a rest at Portes de Culet. We recovered our energy to continue. In this last section we had to beware of the narrow trip, going down by a way with less snow. La Pointe de Bellevue is a wonderful view point over the Rhone Valley, the Dents du Midi and the Chablais.

No pensamos que iba a haber tanta nieve, pero fue fácil andar sobre ella, la única parte realmente resbaladiza fue cuando tuvimos que cruzar unas pistas de esquí, pero sólo hubo que atravesar dos. Una vez que habíamos superado la primera parte, nos tomamos un descanso en Portes de Culet. Tras recobrar energías continuamos con el último tramo. En éste hay que tener bastante cuidado en la parte en la que se estrecha el camino,  está cerca de un desfiladero, justo antes de llegar a la cima! Y por fin esas maravillosas vistas desde La Pointe de Bellevue, visión 360º: el Valle del Rhone, Les Dents du Midi, el Chablais y el lago Leman. Para bajar no cogimos la misma ruta, hicimos una ruta circular, por un camino ya con menos nieve.

Glacier 3000, Vaud

Glacier 3000, snow paradise at 3000m. Skiing in summer in Switzerland it's possible and this is one of the places to practice it! It's a good idea to include a visitt to the alpine village of Les Diablerets (1200 m), and afterwards continue to this glacial area at 3000 m. of altitude that links the cantons of Bern, Valais and Vaud. There you can hike or practise winter sports, with an amazing panoramic view over the eternal snows, and all the mountains over 4000m. of altitude that sourround it, being the Cervin or the Mont Blanc among them.

Glaciar 3000. Esquiar en verano es posible en Suiza, y este es uno de los sitios para hacerlo! Una buena excursión, es combinar una visita a Les Diablerets (1200 m), un pueblo alpino, y después continuar a su glacaiar a 3000 metros de altitud. Allí se puede hacer hiking o practicar deportes de invierno sobre las nieves eternas con una vista panorámica increíble: todo montañas alrededor en 360°, 24 cumbres con más de 4000 metros de altitud, entre ellas el Cervino y el Mont Blanc.

There are 25 km of ski slopes, 3.5 of cross-country ski, the snowpark, raquettes paths (50 km) and "l'alpine coaster". It's a roller coaster where you can reach 40 km/h, it was closed the time we visit, so we will try next time! Hay 25 km de pistas esquiables, 3.5 de esquí de fondo, un snowpark, caminos para raquetas de nieve (unos 50 km) y una montaña rusa alpina. Esta vez estaba cerrada, así que la probaremos la próxima vez que vayamos! Si queréis ver Les Diablerets, ya hicimos un post

One of our favourite trips was this one, when we went up to Glacier 3000 and we walked through the snow on a sunny day to La Quille du Diable, http://www.lovingswitzerland.com/2013/11/la-quille-du-diable-vaud.html , this view really amazed us. It's indispensable going on a clear day, to enjoy of it. If it's too cold to walk there's a chance to stay at Botta's restaurant, and to go to the view point on the terrace. It's located at the same building where you arrive with the cable-car.

Una de nustras excursiones favoritas fue ésta, la subida a Glaciar 3000 y el paseo sobre la nieve para llegar a La Quille du Diable, http://www.lovingswitzerland.com/2013/11/la-quille-du-diable-vaud.html, sus vistas realmente nos imrpesionaron. Es indispensable ir en un día despejado para disfrutarlo. Si hace despasiado frío para andar también existe la posibilidad de quedarse en el restaurante del arquitecto Botta e ir al mrador al que se accede desde la terraza del edificio. Todo complejo, restaurantes y llegada del telecabina forman parte del diseño del arquitecto.

La Grande Crevasse, Leysin

La Grande Crevasse, Leysin. A few months ago we went to Leysin to enjoy the views from La Berneuse and to hike from there until the village http://www.lovingswitzerland.com/2013/11/leysin-la-berneuse-2048m-vaud.html This wans't feasible beacuse of the amount of snow, so we went down in the telecabine and we started another hiking path, from Leysin there's a lot of possibilities! Leysin is one of the highest villages in the Alpes Vaudoises, it's placed over a plateau at 1263 metres of altitude, Our choice was to hike a not so long walk to La Grande Crevasse, a place with a breathtaking view of Leman's lake.

Hace unos meses fuimos a Leysin para ver el restaurante giratorio que se encuentra en La Berneuse y  hacer una marcha andando desde allí hasta el pueblo. http://www.lovingswitzerland.com/2013/11/leysin-la-berneuse-2048m-vaud.html Vimos que el camino de bajada no era posible debido a la cantidad de nieve que había, así que bajamos con el telecabina y comenzamos otra ruta de hiking. Desde Leysin hay muchísimas opciones. De hecho, es uno de los pueblos a mayor altitud en los Alpes Vaudoises, situado a 1263 metros sobre una meseta. Nuestra elección fue La Grande Crevasse.

In our way we found a nice restaurant in a wooden chalet. We drank a hot tea and we continued our way to this magnificent view point, overlooking the Rhone Valley and Léman's Lake. The temperature was really cold with snow all around us.

De camino, paramos en un restaurante típico, un chalet de madera muy acogedor, donde bebimos algo caliente y continuamos hacia el mirador de La Grande Crevasse. Se ve el Valle del Rhone y el lago Léman.

La Quille du Diable, Vaud

La Quille du Diable, Refuge de l'espace. As we told you in Les Diablerets post, last weekend we went with our friends to Glacier 3000, and once there our main objectif was to get to La Quille du Diable, a view point absolutely espectacular. To arrive up there we had to take two cable car and one chairlift (70.-). Then we walked through ski slopes and some paths for 40 minutes, in a completely flat area on the glaciar. After this easy hike we arrived to La Quille du Diable.

La Quille du Diable, refugio de l'Espace. Como os dijimos en el post de Les Diablerets, el pasado fin de semana fuimos con nuestros amigos a Glacier 3000, y allí, nuestro objetivo principal era llegar a la Quille du Diable, un punto de observación absolutamente espectacular. Para llegar allí tuvimos que coger dos telecabinas y un telesilla (70.-, la mitad con demi-tarif). Una vez allí, caminamos a través de pistas de esquí y algunos senderos durante 40 minutos, en un área completamente plana encima del glaciar. Después de esta sencilla excursión llegamos a la Quille du Diable.

At 2860 metres there was  Le Refuge de l'espace, a really nice bar where, from its terrace, you could admire all the Valais valley and the Alps behind. We sat for a cup of coffee, but even before the waitress knew if we were going to order something (we were planning on eating our homemade sandwiches) she offered us some blankets (really warm, made of cow leather with its hair) to take a seat and to enjoy the scenery of the mountains in that sunny and clear day. It was really nice of them. It was one of the best coffees we have ever taken, thanks to the breathtaking view.

A 2860 m. de altitud está el Refuge de l'Espace, un refugio-cafetería lleno de encanto, desde cuya terraza se puede admirar todo el valle de Valais y los Alpes. Tomamos un café, pero incluso antes de saber si ibamos a pedir algo (estabamos sacando nuestros bocadillos), la señora que atendía nos ofreció unas mantas (realmente cálidas, de piel de vaca) para que disfrutasemos calientes la vista que se ofrecía ante nosotros en ese soleado día. Fue muy amable por su parte. El café nos supo como el mejor que hemos tomado por las increíbles vistas.
