Exposition 1+1, Lausanne

Exposición 1+1, Café du Pont, Lausanne. El viernes pasado estuvimos en la inauguración de la exposición 1+1 en la que se muestran los dibujos de Francesca Aiello y Eleonora Modolo. Dos arquitectas apasionadas del dibujo y del arte. Nos encantaron sus delicadas obras, que perfectamente iluminadas en la marquesina del Café du Pont, destacaban en la fría noche lausannoise. Desde aquí queremos dar la enhorabuena a nuestra talentosa amiga Francesca por su primera exposición =) El café du Pont se encuentra en la calle Rue du Petit-Saint-Jean 7, 1003 Lausanne y la exposición estará hasta el 31.12.2015. Os recomendamos que no os la perdais!

Exhibition 1+1, Café du Pont, Lausanne. Last Friday we've visited the lovely exhibition 1+1 currently running at Le Café du Pont in Lausanne's city center, Rue du Petit-Saint-Jean 7. In there, two young architects, Francesca Aiello and Eleonora Modolo, are showing and selling their talented drawings and artworks. Congrats Frankie =)

Festival International de Ballons - Château d´Oex

Festival International de Ballons - Château d'Oex. In this lovely village, Château d'Oex, close to Gstaad, every year it takes place this international hot-air balloons festival. We were looking forward to visit this event for a long time, but because of the bad weather conditions, too much wind, flights were cancelled every time. The festival has taken place every year during 9 days at the end of January or beginning of February since 1979.

Festival International de Ballons - Château d'Oex. Château d'Oex es un pueblo con encanto, cerca de Gstaad, en el que se organiza un festival internacional de globos aerostáticos. Hemos querido ir desde hace un par de años, pero no fue posible debido a las malas condiciones meteorológicas, demasiado viento. Se hace cada año desde 1979 y dura 9 días, suele ser entre finales de enero y principios de febrero.

It is attended by nearly a hundred balloons from over 20 countries.  The participants enjoy flying in this snowy valley with its exceptional microclimate, which offers superb views over the Alps and Pre-Alps. There are several competitions: the hunt of an unknown balloon, a precision event, ... and also some passenger flights.

Suele haber casi una centena de globos de 20 países distintos. Los participantes disfrutan volando en este valle nevado debido a su excepcional microclima y las maravillosas vistas que ofrece sobre los Alpes y los Pre-Alpes. Hay varias competiciones: la caza del globo desconocido, pruebas de precisión, ...  también hay vuelos para pasajeros.

It is also famous for a unique event: the "night-glow" show, where all the balloons are exposed on the mountain, lit by their burners, during the evening of the 7th day.

También es conocido este festival por un acontecimiento único: la "noche incandescente", es un show en el que todos los globos se exhiben junto a la montaña, iluminados por sus quemadores. Es la noche del 7° día.

Skiing in Villars-Gryon

Villars-Gryon ski station. This last weekend we had a great time in one of our favourites ski resorts. Villars is 50 minutes away from Lausanne and it has a perfect south-facing location (not so perfect in winters like this one). We really love this small ski resort. Obviously Villars is not Verbier, Zermatt or Saas-Fee, but thanks to that there are few people in chairlifts and the atmosphere is homely with so many Swiss families around.

Estación de esquí de Villars- Gryon. El pasado domingo pasamos un día estupendo en una de nuestras estaciones favoritas. Villars. Tan sólo a 50 minutos de Lausana, tiene una localización perfecta en plena ladera sur (aunque no tan perfecta en este invierno con altas temperaturas). Realmente nos encanta esta pequeña y coqueta estación. Obviamente no es Verbier, Zermatt o Saas-Fee pero gracias a ello, encuentras relativamente poca gente en los telesillas y remontes!

Villars signature feature is its mountain's railway, which winds up the valley from Bex with final stop in Col de Bretaye, at an altitude of 1810m. A train trip that is really worth doing in Winter even if you don't like skiing.

Una de las particularidades de Villars es su vía de tren, que une el valle desde la localidad de Bex, hasta la parada final en el puerto de Bretaye, dónde puedes descender del tren directamente esquiando, a una altitud de 1810m. Un recorrido en tren que merece mucho la pena hacer, incluso aunque no te guste esquiar, para beber un café en el restaurante de Bretaye.

Vallée et Lac de Joux

Fall at the Lac de Joux, Vaud. The Lac de Joux is located close to the French border; it is the largest expanse of water in the Jura region. This lake is famous because in winter it freezes and becomes an ice rink, can you imagine skating there?! Before our arrived from Lausanne, we did some stops to enjoy this year's  autumn colors.

Otoño en el Lac de Joux, Vaud. El Lago de Joux se está situado cerca de la frontera francesa; es la extensión de agua más grande de la región del Jura. Este lago es famoso por congelarse en invierno y poder patinar sobre él. Antes de llegar, en nuestro camino desde Lausanne, hicimos un par de paradas para disfrutar de los colores del otoño.

There's a nearly adjacent lake but much smaller, the Lac Brenet, both of them don't have a surface drainage; the water trickles away underground and only comes to the surface again a few kilometres away near Vallorbe.

Hay otro lago al lado de éste, el Lac Brenet, mucho más pequeño, pero igual de bonito. Ninguno de ellos tiene  un riachuelo o salida de agua en superficie, ésta se filtra en el terreno y reaparece a unos kilómetros, cerca de Vallorbe.

The village between both lakes it's called Le Pont, it looks like a Nordic construction  placed in the South face. There're lots of hiking paths that start from here: the tour of the lake, the ascent to the Dent de Vaulion and many others.

El pueblo entre ambos lagos se llama Le Pont, recuerda a las construcciones nórdicas,  está situado en la cara sur del lago. Desde aquí salen muchas rutas de senderismo: la vuelta al lago es una posibilidad, o la subida al Dent de Vaulion y muchas otras.

Restaurant Glacier 3000, Mario Botta architecture.  It's been a long time since we  have posted, we had taken a little break. This week we want to continue our Glacier's 3000 post. http://www.lovingswitzerland.com/2014/03/glacier-3000-vaud.html  Before heading out to the cable car to Col Du Pillon, to finish our trip, we stopped at Mario Botta's building for a nice drink at Restaurant Botta in a peaceful evening time jaunt along the mountains and the snow.  The modern metallic building juts out over the mountain, giving diners a panoramic view over the Bernese, Vaud and French Alps.

Restaurant Glacier 3000, Mario Botta architecture. Hace tiempo que no hacemos un post, nos hemos tomado unas semanas de vacaciones. Para seguir enseñándoos un poquito más de Suiza, esta semana continuamos nuestra entrada de Glaciar 3000. http://www.lovingswitzerland.com/2014/03/glacier-3000-vaud.html Antes de dirigirnos al telecabina que nos bajaba a Col du Pillon una vez finalizada nuestra excursión, nos paramos en el edificio del famoso arquitecto Mario Botta, para tomar algo en Restaurant Botta en una agradable tarde. El moderno edificio, hecho en chapa metálica, sobresale sobre la montaña, ofreciendo cenas con una vista panorámica sobre la Bernese, Vaud y los Alpes franceses.

Building a restaurant 3,000 metres above sea level was a special challenge, said Swiss star architect Mario Botta. "You only do it once in a lifetime" and it's worth a visit alone, you just need to get to Col Du Pillon and then ride on the cable car for 15 minutes (a little bit expensive 65.-) which takes you up to the top. Once there you're free to enjoy breathtaking views of snowcapped mountains all around and the masterpiece of architecture!

La estación de montaña con su restaurante, diseñada por el premiado arquitecto Mario Botta merece una visita en sí misma, sólo tienes que llegar a Col du Pillon y coger el telecabina durante 15 minutos, el cual te lleva a la cima. Una vez arriba sólo tienes que disfrutar de las vistas tan increíbles a tu alrededor.

We took a detour around the building before riding out the cable car to go down until the view point. The building contains a restaurant, a self-service and a picnic area with a terrace. The building presented a special challenge not just for the architect, Botta who has built banks, offices, libraries and museums all over the world. Up to 70 skilled workers, as well as materials, had to be transported to the summit on a daily basis. The work often had to be interrupted because of snowfall, storms or the cold at 3000m.!

Hicimos un pequeño tour entorno al edificio antes de bajar de allí, yendo al mirador que hay a su lado, saliendo por la terraza. Además de albergar la llegada del telecabina el edificio tiene un restaurante, un self-service y una zona de picnic. La construcción supuso un gran reto no sólo para el arquitecto Botta, quien ya había construido bancos, oficinas, bibliotecas y museos alrededor del mundo. Si no también para sus más de 70 trabajadores cualificados que tenían que ser transportados hasta la cima diariamente, al igual que los materiales. El trabajo tenía que ser interrumpido a causa de tormentas de nieve o por el frío. Otra curiosidad es que la infraestructura del restaurante de la cuarta planta fue especialmente diseñada para adaptarse a distintos eventos que suceden en él.

St. Saphorin, Lavaux

St-Saphorin, Lavaux. To enjoy these sunny days in Suisse Romande, we hiked last Saturday in the Lavaux Vineyards Terrasses, starting in the charming village of St-Saphorin, close to Vevey. We highly encouraged this Unesco world Heritage site if you're coming to Switzerland. St-Saphorin. Para disfrutar estos últimos días soleados en la Suiza Romande, hicimos una pequeña ruta en las viñas de Lavaux el pasado sábado, comenzando en el encantador pueblo de St-Saphorin. Realmente os recomendamos no perderos este sitio, patrimonio de la Unesco, si venís a Suiza. Incluso en invierno. We were hesitating about doing a bike-tour, but we needed to rent a bike and the rental places were a bit far away, so we decided just to walk. The nice thing is that there is a train station at St. Saphorin so you don't need to do a roundtrip. Through the village you arrive to the hiking path, and you can take it to Vevey or to Lausanne, we took this one. There's no need to arrive to Lausanne, you can always take the train on the way, Rivaz, Epesses, ... The hole footpath has 32 km and it leads from Lausanne-Ouchy to Chillon Castle; there're 7 circuits. In this villages you can taste their wine in the cellars that are opened to the public.

También existe la posibilidad de hacer un recorrido en bici, estuvimos pensando en hacerlo, pero los sitios de alquiler de bicis no estaban muy cerca, así que finalmente andamos. Un buen punto de partida es Saint Saphorin, donde hay parada de tren, así no hace falta hacer una ruta de ida y vuelta. A través del pueblo, subiendo, llegamos a la ruta pedestre, se puede coger en dirección Vevey o Lausanne, nosotros cogimos ésta última. No se necesita llegar a Lausanne, siempre se puede coger el tren entre medias, Rivaz, Epesses, ... El recorrido completo a pie es de 32 km y se dirige desde Lausanne-Ouchy (la zona del lago) al Castillo de Chillon; hay 7 circuitos. En los pueblos que formas parte de él, hay degustaciones de vino en las bodegas, que están abiertas al público.

Skiing in the Alpes Vaudoises

Vaud Alps, Villars-Diablerets. Those following us on instagram might have seen recently some snow and fog pictures. That's because last weekend we've enjoyed a awesome skiing day in the slopes of Villars and Les Diablerets, known as the Alps Vaudoises. Days like this make our stay in Switzerland something really unforgettable. The sun, snow and landscape look perfect, like a postcard. 

Alpes vaudoises, Villars - Les Diablerets. Aquellos que nos sigan en instagram habrán visto últimamente algunas fotos de nieve y niebla. Eso es porque el pasado fin de semana disfrutamos de un espectacular día de esquí en las pendientes de Villars y Diablerets, área también conocida como los Alpes Vaudoises. Días como éste hacen de nuestra estancia en Suiza algo que nunca olvidaremos. El sol, la nieve y el paisaje estaban perfectos, nítidos... como en una postal.

These two ski resorts, Villars-Gryon and Les Diablerets, are accessible with the same forfait that provides you with more than 200 km of pistes. And Villars, even if it is not as big as others is one of our favourites resorts in Switzerland. This time we went by car with two friends who came to visit us, it takes 50 minutes from Lausanne, and from Villars you need to take the cog railway to Bretaye, where the slopes are actually located.

Estas dos estaciones, Villars-Gryon y Les Diablerets, son accesibles con el mismo forfait que dan acceso a más de 200 km. de pistas. Y Villars, a pesar de no ser tan grande como otras, es una de nuestras estaciones favoritas en Suiza. Esta vez fuimos en coche con dos amigos que vinieron a visitarnos desde Madrid. Está a 50 minutos desde Lausana, y desde el pueblo de Villars hay que coger el tren cremallera que sube a Bretaye.
