James Blunt's restaurant, Verbier

James Blunt's restaurant, La Vache - Verbier. James Blunt, the British pop star, opened his own ski restaurant in Verbier. La Vache is situated at 2730 meters above sea level, with a spectacular view across the Swiss Alps. During our ski day some weeks ago, we spent our lunch time there. A huge variety of pizzas, soups and hamburgers, we thought it would be something more glamorous, but it was tasty. A bit expensive for a pizza, but it's like this in a place like Verbier.

La Vache está situada a 2730 metros sobre el nivel del mar con unas vistas impresionantes de los Alpes Suizos. Hace unas semanas estuvimos esquiando allí y aprovechamos para conocer este restaurante. Tienen una gran variedad de pizzas, sopas y hamburguesas, no era exactamente lo que nos esperábamos, pero estaban buenas. Un poco caro para este tipo de comida, pero es lo normal en un sitio como Verbier.

It's decorated warmly, with some cows in the terrace, it's a cool place to stop for lunch.

Está decorado cálidamente en su interior, y con vacas en la terraza. Es un sitio agradable para parar durante el esquí. Recomendamos reservar.

Annecy-le-Vieux, France

Last Saturday we spent a great time with our friends in Annecy. This French city is a popular day trip from nearby Geneva (and Lausanne). And it is called the Venice of Savoie because a network of canals criss-crossing the town and bridges decorated with beautiful floral baskets remind of Venice. It is really pretty and charming but it is also very touristy and crowded! They were having an antique market last Saturday and all the streets were lined with beautiful furniture, décor and jewelry.
 

El pasado sábado pasamos un gran día con nuestros amigos en Annecy. Esta pequeña ciudad de Francia es un viaje típico para un día desde Ginebra (o Lausana). Se la llama la Venecia de Savoia debido a la red de canales que recorren la ciudad y la cantidad de puentes con decoraciones y flores. Es realmente bonito y con mucho encanto pero tambi´n muy turística! Había un antiguo mercado y las calles estaban llenas de objetos "vintage" y muebles antiguos!
 

Annecy´l lake (le lac d'Annecy) is very popular and the second largest lake of the country of France after the lake Bourget. After walking around and appreciated the beautiful old part of Annecy. We decided to rent a motor boat for one hour, costing 50 €, it was a super idea! A boat driving license isn´t necessary and we could enjoy the sunset from the middle of the lake!

 

El lago de Annecy es muy popular y el segundo más grande de Francia después del lago Bourget. Después de nuestra vuelta por el centro y disfrutar el encanto del centro histórico, decidimos alquilar una pequeña lancha a motor durante una hora, costaba 50€, fue una gran idea! Ni siquiera hace falta una licencia de barcos para tripularla y pudimos disfrutar el atardecer desde el centro del lago!

Restaurant Glacier 3000, Mario Botta architecture.  It's been a long time since we  have posted, we had taken a little break. This week we want to continue our Glacier's 3000 post. http://www.lovingswitzerland.com/2014/03/glacier-3000-vaud.html  Before heading out to the cable car to Col Du Pillon, to finish our trip, we stopped at Mario Botta's building for a nice drink at Restaurant Botta in a peaceful evening time jaunt along the mountains and the snow.  The modern metallic building juts out over the mountain, giving diners a panoramic view over the Bernese, Vaud and French Alps.

Para seguir enseñándoos un poquito más de Suiza, esta semana continuamos nuestra entrada de Glaciar 3000. http://www.lovingswitzerland.com/2014/03/glacier-3000-vaud.html Antes de dirigirnos al telecabina que nos bajaba a Col du Pillon una vez finalizada nuestra excursión, nos paramos en el edificio del famoso arquitecto Mario Botta, para tomar algo en Restaurant Botta en una agradable tarde. El moderno edificio, hecho en chapa metálica, sobresale sobre la montaña, ofreciendo cenas con una vista panorámica sobre la Bernese, Vaud y los Alpes franceses.

Building a restaurant 3,000 metres above sea level was a special challenge, said Swiss star architect Mario Botta. "You only do it once in a lifetime" and it's worth a visit alone, you just need to get to Col Du Pillon and then ride on the cable car for 15 minutes (a little bit expensive 65.-) which takes you up to the top. Once there you're free to enjoy breathtaking views of snowcapped mountains all around and the masterpiece of architecture!

La estación de montaña con su restaurante, diseñada por el premiado arquitecto Mario Botta merece una visita en sí misma, sólo tienes que llegar a Col du Pillon y coger el telecabina durante 15 minutos, el cual te lleva a la cima. Una vez arriba sólo tienes que disfrutar de las vistas tan increíbles a tu alrededor.

We took a detour around the building before riding out the cable car to go down until the view point. The building contains a restaurant, a self-service and a picnic area with a terrace. The building presented a special challenge not just for the architect, Botta who has built banks, offices, libraries and museums all over the world. Up to 70 skilled workers, as well as materials, had to be transported to the summit on a daily basis. The work often had to be interrupted because of snowfall, storms or the cold at 3000m.!

Hicimos un pequeño tour entorno al edificio antes de bajar de allí, yendo al mirador que hay a su lado, saliendo por la terraza. Además de albergar la llegada del telecabina el edificio tiene un restaurante, un self-service y una zona de picnic. La construcción supuso un gran reto no sólo para el arquitecto Botta, quien ya había construido bancos, oficinas, bibliotecas y museos alrededor del mundo. Si no también para sus más de 70 trabajadores cualificados que tenían que ser transportados hasta la cima diariamente, al igual que los materiales. El trabajo tenía que ser interrumpido a causa de tormentas de nieve o por el frío. Otra curiosidad es que la infraestructura del restaurante de la cuarta planta fue especialmente diseñada para adaptarse a distintos eventos que suceden en él.

Restaurant Le Tsalè, Les Paccots

Le Tsalè restaurant, Les Paccots. Last weekend we've been to this restaurant on our way to Fribourg. Some friends gave us the recommendation, It's really well-known in the Suisse romande when you're talking about fondue. We tried to have dinner there once last winter, but without doing a reservation before, it was impossible, completely full, and they talked to us like if we were nuts for having gone without booking in advance! This time we phoned before going, It was last Saturday, a really sunny day, and we went at 14.00 h. an hour a bit strange for eating, so we didn't have any problem with the reservation (for dinner time they already had a table for 60 people!) 

Le Tsalè restaurante, Les Paccots, Fribourg. El pasado fin de semana fuimos a este restaurante en nuestro camino a Friburgo. Algunos amigos nos lo habían recomendado, así que nos presentamos allí un domingo el invierno pasado, pero estaba lleno. Nos dijeron que si estábamos locos por ir sin reservar! Esta vez llamamos antes de ir, reservamos a las 14:00, una hora algo extraña pero así no tuvimos problemas para la reserva, por la tarde noche ya estaba llena con una mesa para 60 personas!

We were told about the fondue, so we tried it! We also ordered "croûte au frômage", and a typical sausage with vegetables. Everything was really good, the fondue was not salty, very soft, so we weren't disappointed. You should always cheese fondue with white wine! We were said if you do it with water it can makes your stomach hurt (for kids some tea)

Esta es una imagen antigua del restaurante. Ha conservado el mismo tejado, hecho de madera y toda la granja. Nos hablaron de la fondue, así que la probamos, además de "croûte au fromage" y una salchica típica con verduras. Todo estuvo realmente bueno, la fondue no estaba salada (como ocurre algunas veces) así que no nos decepcionó. Recordad si tomais fondue tomarla siempre con vino blanco!

The restaurant was charming, everything made in wood, with a lot of details, some edelweiss flowers dried (a flower very typical from Switzerland), cowbells, and a huge fondue at the entrance. As we went on a sunny day we ate outside, where the tables were not so beautiful. El restaurante tiene mucho encanto, todo hecho en madera, con muchos detalles como algunas "edelweiss" secas sobre un muro (la flor típica de Suiza), cencerros y un gran recipiente para hacer la fondue en la entrada. Como fuimos un día soleado comimos fuera, dónde las mesas no estaban tan cuidadas. El teléfono para reservar es 021 948 0700. Nos vemos la semana que viene!

Rolex Learning center by SANAA, Lausanne

Rolex Learning Center, Lausanne. This amazing building is a library (among another things) designed by the  Japanese architectural firm SANAA. It's located in the EPFL campus, École Polytechnique Fédéral of Lausanne.  It's made of concrete, creating a fluid space in the interior for students to  work, study and relax in the puffs that are spread all over de slopes of the building.While the building is a perfect rectangle when seen in a plan, the holes (patios) and slopes that define the interior space give the building a completely organic look.

Rolex Learning Center, Lausana. Este increíble edificio es una biblioteca (entre otras cosas) dineñada por la firma japonesa SANAA. Situado en la EPFL, la Escuela Politécnica de Lausanne. Está hecho de hormigón, creando un espacio fluido para estudiar, hacer trabajos en común y relajarse en el puffs que están esparcidos por las cuestas del edificio. Se trata de un perfecto rectángulo visto en planta, pero los agujeros (patios) y cuestas que definen el espacio interior dan al edificio un aspecto orgánico.

The floor ondulates gently, always in parallel to the ceiling , with few visible supports, it touches the ground lightly. In this fluid space there're different areas: a cafeteria, a very nice restaurant, social spaces, spaces to study, a library, etc. If you're a student in the EPFL you can book a study box. This building makes you to want to be an student again to enjoy these spaces. Once, we ate at one of its restaurants, even the menu of the day was great, (not student price, though). So for a rainy day in Lausanne is the perfect place to visit, one of the best buildings in Switzerland.

El suelo se ondula suavemente, siempre paralelo al techo, con muy pocos soportes visibles y tocando el suelo de una forma ligera.Este edificio te hace querer volver a ser estudiante para disfrutarlo. Una vez comimos en uno de los restaurantes que hay en su interior y el menú del día fue algo increíble (aunque a precio no tan de estudiantes) Es la visita ideal para un día lluvioso en Lausana.

Einstein kaffee, Berne

Einstein Kaffee & Rauchsalon. Last weekend walking around Bern, we´ve found this lovely and charming cafeteria. Most of restaurants were closed on Sunday but this one was opened (and full of people), really well-designed, with wood and stone in walls and ceilings, creating a cool atmosphere. With a menu of some cold food, mainly you can ask for caffees and cakes. And this is what we did.

Einstein Cafetería en Berna. El pasado fin de semana, caminando por Berna, encontramos esta acogedora cafetería. La mayoría de los restaurantes estaban cerrados el domingo, pero éste estaba abierto y lleno de gente. Realmente muy bien diseñado, con madera y piedra en paredes y techos, creando una buena atmósfera. En el menú encontramos algo de comida fría, aunque principalemente se pueden pedir cafés y tartas, que es lo que hicimos.
