Bellerive-Plage, Lausanne

 

Bellerive-Plage, Lausanne, Vaud. One of our favorite places to enjoy the warm weather during the summer time. This complex is an example of funcionalist architecture, with swimming pools and a round building containing the entrance hall and the restaurant. It creates the initial point of a 400 meters long curved axis of concrete. In this building are located the changing rooms, taking up two levels: one for women and one for men. On the third floor there's a beautiful sun terrace and the restaurant.

Bellerive Plage, Lausana, Canton de Vaud. Uno de nuestros lugares favoritos para disfrutar del cálido verano. Este complejo es un ejemplo de arquitectura funcionalista, con piscinas y un edificio circular que contiene el restaurante y el hall de entrada, creando el punto inicial de un eje curvo de 400m. hecho en hormigón. Una idea rotunda que albergará los vestuarios, en dos niveles, uno para mujeres y otro para hombres. En el tercer piso encontramos una terraza y el restaurante.

The entire complex was built from 1936 to 1937, during a time of economic crisis. The project was part of a plan to counteract unemployment: to promote job-creation machines were not allowed on the construction site. The architect was Marc Piccard from Lausanne. He was also responsible for enlarging the site in 1962. A meticulous renovation was carried out in 1993 by the architects Inès Lamunière and Patrick Devanthéry, with careful attention to the historical parts of the building.

El conjunto fue construido de 1936 a 1937, durante un periodo de gran crisis económica. Se hizo formando parte de un plan contra el desempleo, en incluso para promover la creación de puestos de trabajo, no se utilizaron máquinas en la construcción. El arquitecto fue Marc Piccard, natural de Lausanne. También fue el responsable de la ampliación en 1962. Años más tarde, en 1993, una meticulosa restauración fue llevada a cabo por los arquitectos Inès Lamuniére y Patrick Devanthéry, con particular cuidado a las partes más antiguas y valiosas del edificio.

Every detail is well-designed as the handrails, the pergolas for sun protection or the springboards. It surprising how modern this building looks in spite of its construction in 1936!

Todos los detalles estás muy cuidades y diseñados como las barandillas, las pérgolas para la protección solar, o los trampolines. Es increíble lo moderno que parece el edificio, a pesar de su construcción en 1936!

During the summer season the "plage" opens from 9:30 to 20:30 (it depends on the weather), and the entrance fee is 5,5.- for adults, 4.- for students. Le Grammont (2171 m.) Valais

Le Grammont, Valais. This mountain, about 2171 above sea level, stands in the South part of Lake Geneva. And there are several hiking paths which offer magnificent views of all the Leman's valley (in a sunny day). The walk starts in a small village, the Flon, at 1050m. and from there to the beautiful Lake Taney there is a altitude difference of almost 500m, in 2 km. It was quite hard for us. After taking a break, we walked up for two hours until we reached the jumelles, and the snow.

Le Grammont, Valais. Esta montaña, cerca de 2171m. sobre el nivel del mar, está situada en el lado Sur del lago Léman. Hay muchos recorridos que ofrecen magníficas vistas de todo el valle del lago Leman (en un día soleado). La caminata empieza en un pequeño pueblo, Le Flon, a 1050m., y desde allí hasta el precioso lago de Taney hay una diferencia de altitud de 500m., en 2 km de subida. Bastante duro para nosotros. Después de un pequeño descanso, caminamos durante cerca de dos horas hasta alcanzar Les Jumelles, una montaña, con dos cumbres, como su nombre indica, además de la nieve.

This second part of the hike, from the Lake Taney to the summit of Grammont is one of our best experiences in Switzerland, walking on snow in summer surrounded by huge montains. This part of the path is almost 4.2 km long with an altitude difference of 672 m. At the end, the incredible view of Lake Geneva from the summit of Grammont. 

Esta segunda parte de la subida, desde el lago Taney hasta la cima del Grammont es una de nuestras experiencias más bonitas desde que estamos en Suiza, caminando sobre la nieve entre montañas enormes. Esta parte son aproximadamente 4,2 km. con una diferencia de altitud de 672 m. Lo mejor al final, las increibles vistas del lago Leman desde la cumbre del Grammont.

From up there we enjoyed a few minutes the 360º view before starting the walk down (about two hours until le Flon), the cities of Lausanne, Vevey, Montreux and the castle of Chillon. And in the "Alps" side, most of the Swiss peaks of the Canton of Valais, Fribourg etc, like the Rochers de Naye, the Dent of Jaman, the Tour d'Ai of Leysin, the Diablerets, the Moléson, etc. further away stand the Eiger and Jungfrau.

Desde allí arriba disfrutamos unos minutos de la vista 360º, antes de comenzar el descenso (unas 2 horas hasta Flon), viendo las ciudades de Lausanne, Vevey, Montreux y el castillo de Chillon. Y en el lado de los Alpes, la mayoría de los más altos picos suizos de los cantones de Valais y Friburgo, con el Rochers de Naye, el Dent de Jaman, los Diablerets, el Molesón... algo más lejos pudimos ver el Eiger y el Jungfrau.

CERN Geneva

CERN, Genève. European Organization for Nuclear Research. One of our friends works at CERN, so she was really nice to organize us a guided visit. First of all there was an introduction, where they explained us very well what they are researching, in terms that we could understood. In short, they research the physics particle of the material. And later we started the real visit!

CERN, Ginebra. Organización Europea para la Investigación Nuclear. Una de nuestras amigas trabaja en el CERN, y tuvo el detalle de organizarnos una visita guiada. Lo primero que hubo fue una presentación en la que nos explicaron muy bien lo que están investigando (en términos que pudiésemos entender), y el resumen podría ser que buscan de qué está hecha la partícula física de la materia. Después de esto comenzó la verdadera visita.

From CERNS' entrance we took a minibus that was waiting for us to go to one of the points where the particles collision, Atlas. It was 100 m. underground and it was a really impressive machine, in size, colors, elements...! The accelerator is a 27 km circumference (a circular tunnel), placed in the region between the Geneva Airport and the nearby Jura mountain, between France and Switzerland.

En la entrada del CERN un mini-autobús nos estaba esperando para llevarnos hasta uno de los puntos en los que colisionan las partículas, Atlas. Una vez allí descendimos 100 m. bajo tierra para ver esa máquina tan increíble en la que se realizan los estudios. El acelerador está formado por una circunferencia de 27 km (un túnel circular), y por varios puntos de cruce. Este anillo está situado entre la región del aeropuerto de Ginebra y las montañas del Jura, entre Suiza y Francia.

 

There were also rooms with hundreds of computers, to record what the particles do when they collision. It was a visit of almost 4 hours, but super interesting (not only if you're a physician). Unfortunately we couldn't visit the tunnel, but CERN's personnal told us that it will be opened to visitors next September

Unos metros por encima, había salas llenas de cientos de ordenadores, para grabar toda la información recogida cada vez que se realiza una prueba. Fue una visita de casi 4 horas, pero muy interesante (no sólo si eres físico) Desafortunadamente no pudimos ver el túnel, pero el personal del CERN nos contó que estará abierto al público este próximo septiembre.
 

Lucerne

Lucerne. In summer season family and friends start to visit us. This time we've decided to take the road from Lausanne passing by Interlaken, destiny Lucern. This way is really beautiful, plenty of lakes (about 3 hours). Lucern is one of the most beautiful cities in Switzerland surrounded by the lake of the Four Cantons, and The Mount Pilatus. Our idea was to look around the city center and later to take the highest exterior lift in Europe, Hammetschwand lift at the Bürgenstock, but it was closed at 17.30, so we couldn't.. =(

Lucerna. En verano la familia y amigos vienen a visitarnos. Por eso decidimos esta vez tomar la carretera desde Lausanne, pasando por Interlaken para llegar a Lucerna. Esta ruta es realmente bonita, y está llena de lagos (3 horas aproximadamente). Lucerna es una de las ciudades más bonitas de Suiza, rodeada del Lago de los Cuatro Cantones, y el Monte Pilatus. Nuestra idea era dar una vuelta por el centro de la ciudad y, más tarde, ir a ver el ascensor más algo de Europa, Hammetschwand en Bürgenstock, lamentablemente cerraba a las 17:30, y no nos dió tiempo...

We´ve enjoyed a walk through the famous Chapel Bridge, symbol of Lucerne, plenty of flowers (and people). The bridge was originally built in 1333 as part of Lucerne's fortifications but the most known thing about it was the fire which  almost burned down on August 18, 1993, destroying two thirds of its interior paintings

Disfrutamos de una agradable paseo por el famoso puente de la Capilla, el símbolo de Lucerna, lleno de flores y de gente. El puente fue originalmente construido en 1333, como parte de las fortificaciones de Lucerna, pero el hecho más conocido acerca de él, fue el incendio que casi lo quemó el 18 de agosto de 1993, destruyendo dos terceras partes de sus pinturas interiores.

You shouldn't miss Lucerne if you are coming to Switzerland. It ranks amongst the world's prettiest cities, and there is so much to see there. But not only the lovely bridges or the well-conserved façades. There are also plenty of cafeterias and terraces where you can enjoy the nice view and the city ambience. Like we did!

No deberiais perderos Lucerna si vais a venir a Suiza. Está catalogada como una de las ciudades más bonitas del mundo! y hay muchísimo que ver. Aunque no sólo los puentes y las fachadas, sino también muchísimas cafeterías y terrazas dónde disfrutar un café con las vistas y el buen ambiente de la Ciudad. Cómo hicimos nosotros!

Lac de Taney, Valais

Taney's lake, Valais. To enjoy  the first sunny weekend this summer, we've decided to walk through the mountains. Just 40 km away from Lausanne and you can find this magnificent lake. We went until Le flon by car (there is a parking prepared for that), and once there, our walk started. One hour through a mountain path with a slope really big and we got to this beautiful lake surrounded by mountains.

Lago de Taney, Valais. Para disfrutar el primer fin de semana soleado del verano, hemos decidido ir de randonée por las montañas de Valais. A tan sólo 40 km de Lausana, se encuentra este magnífico lago, tan diferente del Léman. Fuimos en coche hasta un pueblecito llamado Le Flon (hay un parking allí preparado para hacer esto), y una vez allí nuestra caminata comenzó. Una hora de subida por un camino bastante vertical (no es mucho tiempo, pero se hace duro) y llegamos a este magnífico lago rodeado de montañas.
 

If you don't want to walk there's also the posibility of taking a taxi that brings you up to the lake, but with your own car it's not allowed, it's a small road limitated.
From the lake there are some other paths, some of us decided to stay taking the sun, and some others, we continued up until Le Grammont the highest peak close to Leman's lake (2171 m.) We'll show you in another post.

Close to the lake there's a bar and some appartements. If you want to prepare a barbecue there's a place ready for it, and you can also ask for a permission to camp.

Si no quieres andar existe la opción de subir en taxi hasta el lago, aunque con tu propio coche no está permitido, es una carreterita de acceso limitado. Desde ahí salen otras rutas, así que algunos de nosotros se quedaron bañándose, y otros decidimos subir hasta Le Grammont, el pico más alto cerca del lago Léman (2171 m.) Pero ya os lo enseñaremos en otra entrada del blog.
 
Cerca del lago hay un bar y unos apartamentos. Si quieres hacer barbacoa hay unas en ladrillo junto al lago, pero para acampar hay que pedir un permiso especial suponemos que en el ayuntamiento del pueblo.

Vitra Campus, Weil am Rheim, Basel

Vitra Campus, Weil am Rhein, Basel. When you're visiting Basel, if you love architecture, you shouldn't miss the spectacular complex that Vitra has built engaging the most famous architects around the world. It's placed in an industrial area of Weil am Rhein, a small town in the German side of the border. One of the last attractions inaugurated is the VitraHaus, from the Swiss architects Herzog&deMeuron, with the great furniture exhibition.

Vitra Campus, Weil am Rhein, Basilea. Si visitais Basilea y os gusta la arquitectura, no deberías perderos el espectacular complejo construido por Vitra, para el cuál contrató a alguno de los más importantes arquitectos del mundo. Está situado en una zona industrial de Weil am Rhein, un pequeño pueblo en el lado alemán de la frontera. Una de las últimas atracciones inauguradas es la “VitraHaus”, de los arquitectos suizos Herzog&deMeuron dónde está la genial exposición de muebles.

 

We´ve gone there in may last year, one of our first “architectural” visits in Switzerland and we were not disappointed. But it´s also true that we’ve found the complex like “unreal architecture”, i mean, buildings are really great but there are taking part in a kind of sculpture open-air museum, not in a real place. That makes no easy to judge the buildings as architecture. The real integration in nature context are not really well projected except by the Tadao Ando´s building, for us the best one.

Fuimos en mayo del año pasado, una de nuestras primeras visitas arquitectónicas en Suiza, y no nos decepcionó. Aunque es cierto que vimos el complejo de edificios como una arquitectura no-real, más bien eran una serie de magníficos edificios formando parte de una especie de museo al aire libre. Esto no hace fácil juzgar cada uno como arquitectura. La integración en el contexto natural no está en general muy bien tratada, excepto en el edificio de Tadao Ando, el mejor proyectado para nosotros.

For visiting the complex, the VitraHaus is opened from Monday to Saturday 10-18h. but for the others buildings (Sanaa, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Siza, Prouvé etc.) you need to do the guided visit (there are severals every day from 11 to 15h.), for more information you can visit the official Vitra website in http://www.vitra.com/es-es/campus/.

Para visitor el complejo y el museo, VitraHaus está abierto de lunes a sábado de 10 a 18 horas, y para ver los otros edificios de Sanaa, Hadid, Ando, Siza, Prouvé… es necesario contratar la visita guiada (hay varias cada día de 11 a 15h.), podeis encontrar más información en la página oficial de Vitra http://www.vitra.com/es-es/campus/

Bisse du Milieu, Nendaz, Valais

Randonnée Bisse du Milieu, Nendaz. While in Lausanne was cloudy and almost raining, we decided to look for the sun. We took the route until Valais, one of his cities, Sion, is supposed to be the sunniest place in Switzerland. And we weren't disappointed, we went to Nendaz, a small town with a lot of walking routes. Like it was our first time there we went over the most typical path, the one with the canals of the thaw, Bisse du Milieu. That day was exactly when countrymen were opening the canals to leave water go down from the mountains.

Ruta de Bisse du Milieu, Nendaz. (senderismo, hiking) Mientras en Lausanne estaba nublado y casi lloviendo, nosotros decidimos irnos en busca del sol. Nos fuimos camino a Valais, el cantón con la ciudad más soleada de Suiza, Sion. No nos decepcionó; fuimos a un pueblo muy cercano con muchas rutas para caminar, Nendaz. Como era nuestra primera vez allí recorrimos la ruta más típica, una con canales de agua que proceden del deshielo de las montañas, Bisse du Milieu. Justo el día que fuimos era cuando la gente de la zona abría los canales dejando pasar el agua; hasta entonces habían estado cerrados durante todo el invierno.

Cold wasn't gone yet, even if it was May, there were a lot of paths close because of the snow, so we took first Bisse du Milieu  and we came back to Nendaz by another path, Bisse Vieux, turning in Planchouet. It was a nice walking with water canals by ourside all the time, with views over all Valais' valley. We walked 12 km, an easy route for all levels. We've got the information in the Nendaz's tourist office, where we took also a map of the area.
 

El frío todavía no se había ido, bueno, ni en junio se ha ido del todo este año, así que aún siendo mayo había muchos caminos cerrados por la nieve. En la oficina de turismo del pueblo nos recomendaron hacer la ruta de Bisse du Milieu y volver por Bisse Vieux, haciendo el cambio de ruta en Planchouet. Es una excursión muy agradable con canales de agua al lado todo el tiempo, y vistas sobre el valle de Valais. Andamos unos 12 km, es una ruta fácil para cualquier nivel.
